MENTORS PROJECT- SUMMER AT TEXAS A&M


Exciting 
announcements about the 2019 
SEF/RET Program:

1. The application deadline has been extended till April 5, 2019.


2. The stipend (initially $500/week) has been increased to $700/week. This means SEF participants will get a total of $2,100(previously $1,500), while RET participants will get a total of $3,500 (previously $2,500). Full payment is contingent on completing required hours on the program.

2019 Summer Research Programs

Application Deadline EXTENDED: April 05, 2019.
Develop authentic, research-inspired educational modules that translate cutting edge science into classroom lessons and activities. ALL TEACHERS ARE ELIGIBLE, as all specialties are required for lesson module development.
2019 SEF Program (4 weeks total): 3 weeks (June 16-July 12 with July 4th break from July 1-5) + 1 week at K-12 Summer Institute (July 21 -26). 
Teachers in this program will work closely with faculty at Texas A&M University in colleges/schools of: Medicine, Education and Human Development, Veterinary Medicine and Public Health, to develop science and health-related educational modules.


2018 RET Program (6 weeks total): 4 weeks (June 16-July 19 with July 4th break from July 1-5) + 1 week at K-12 Summer Institute (July 21-26)  + 1 week spread across the rest of the year.
Teachers in these programs will work closely with faculty at Texas A&M University in colleges/schools of Engineering including Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology to develop engineering and technology-based educational modules.
A stipend of $700/week (excluding SI week) will be provided to each participant, with duration dependent on the selected program: for a total of $2,100 for SEFs, and $3,500 for RETs
Teachers are not paid for the week of the Summer Institute but they attend the conference free of charge with hotel accommodation, all training resources and two meals per day provided at no cost.
2019 Program Timelines  
  • The first 1-2 weeks of both programs will be held on-site at Texas A&M University with paid housing (6/16/19 – 6/29/19). There are 3 options for the residential period at TAMU:
    • Option one - 2 continuous weeks in TAMU (strongly recommended)
    • Option two - 2 weeks in TAMU but home for the weekend (leave after 12 noon on Friday 6/21 and arrive before 4pm on Monday 6/24)
    • Option three - 1 week in TAMU (least recommended).
  • The remaining weeks of the program will continue at home schools in Mercedes, TX, where fellows will meet together to continue module development and interactions with TAMU faculty.
  • There will be a July 4th break from Monday, July 1st through Friday, July 5th.
  • Also included as one of the weeks in the program is The 2019 K-12 Summer Institute (SI) in Kerrville, TX (7/21/19 – 7/26/19). Training, CE credits, hotel accommodations (double occupancy) and 2 meals/day will be provided free of charge.   • For teachers in the RET program, there will be one additional paid week (following the Summer Institute) for continued development and pilot testing of the modules.
