Scholarships

Willacy County Young Farmers
Due date April 19, 2018

The Willacy County Young Farmers will again be awarding scholarships to four Willacy County high school seniors this year. They will include three general scholarships for $1000.00 each and the $1500.00 JOHN HENRY JANSEN WCYF MEMORIAL AG. SCHOLARSHIP for students entering an agriculture-related field at college. A copy of the WCYF scholarship application and rules are enclosed and may be reproduced as often as needed by your office.

Students should fill out only one scholarship application even if they wish to be considered for both scholarships. The committee will select the ag-related scholarship first, then return those not selected to the pool from which the general scholarships will be selected. All applications should be completed using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Scholarship Rules:

1.)The recipient must be a full-time student taking a minimum of 12 hours

2.)The scholarship will start with the fall semester following the awarding of the scholarship.

3.)Half of the amount will be awarded upon proof of registration at the college, university, or technical school to be attended.

4.)The second half of the amount will be awarded upon proof of maintaining a 2.5 g.p.a. for the

first semester and proof of registration for the second semester.

5.)If the scholarship recipients first-semester g.p.a. is below 2.5, the recipient will have the

spring and summer semesters to raise their g.p.a. to 2.5 and collect the second half of the

scholarship. If the g.p.a. is not raised, the second half of the scholarship will be forfeited.

6.)The scholarship recipient should contact the W.C.Y.F. within 30 days of the start of the fall and spring semesters to collect their scholarship. Failure to do so could result in forfeiture of

the scholarship

A member of the Committee will pick up the applications on or before April 19, 2018. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process. Applicants must also include a high school transcript with their applications.

Scholarship recipients will receive their money as follows:

1.) Half of the amount will be awarded upon proof of registration from the college, university or technical school to be attended.

2.) The second half of the amount will be awarded upon proof of maintaining a 2.5 g.p.a. for the first semester and proof of registration for the second semester.

3.) The recipient must be a full-time student taking a minimum of 12 hours.

4.) The scholarship will start with the fall semester following the awarding of the scholarship.

NOTE: Students may not collect the second installment if their grade point average falls below 2.5 on the first-semester report card, or if they fail to enroll for the second semester.
